Abstract : Despite the growing interest in Palestinian fiction, on the one hand, and the ongoing concern with « literary linguistics, » on the other, very little research has approached Palestinian literary texts from a linguistic perspective. This book tries to fill this gap, at least partially, by offering linguistic analyses of the creative works by four prominent Palestinian writers: Ḥuzảma Ḥabảyeb, Ziảd Khaddảsh, Ghassản Kanafảnỉ and Samỉra ‘Azzảm. Their imaginative writings voice resistance and resilience against the Zionist forces. Through this research, we hope to further encourage the use of linguistic approaches to the analysis of literary texts. The linguistic approaches used as theoretical and methodological frameworks involve Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT henceforth) as proposed by Lakoff and Johnson (1980), Theory of Cohesion, as suggested by Halliday and Hasan (1976), the General Theory of Verbal Humor (GTVH henceforth) as proposed by Attardo and Raskin (1991) and Attardo (2020), and the Implicature Theory as defined by Grice (1975). This book shows that fiction reflects the power of language as an expressive instrument placed in the hands of Palestinian creative writers to reconstruct what has been ruthlessly obliterated by the Zionist forces.
